Kandinsky Collage Tree's

After studying Kandinsky with my first grade transitioned into collage by using Kandinsky as our inspiration. We created collage trees. First we looked at various trees and worked on drawing them, then we collages them with newspaper. Last we cut out the trees and used fadless paper to create Kandinsky like circle leaves. Chess Set Sculptors

Because our school offers chess, I decided for our last 2nd grade sculptor project, to work on Functional Sculptors! With that we worked on building our own chess sets.

Wood Block Sculptors

Teaching my 2nd grade about landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes we took sculptor to the next level. I had my scholars think about building a land, city, or seascape using geomentric wooden blocks. It was really interesting seeing them overcome the geometric shapes to create these scapes. I first gave them a work sheet having them think about what kind of scape they were going to create, and then sketch and idea of what they were creating. We also spent a class just exploring the blocks, thinking about space and balance. After that, they built their sculptors on a piece of cardboard, and later we painted them with watercolors.

Sponge Painted Snowman

This is a great simple winter project great for so many ages, I used it for Kindergarted and they loved it. I'd like to thank Soons Orchard for giving out free round sponges. They give out these great size round sponges, that they use for packing up apples. On our was upstate my husband and I often stop by for their amazing produce, baked goods and cider! Who knew a fantastic art project would come out too!

Pumpkin Sculptor

This is a great project, complements of my sister in law. I'm moving into sculptor with my second grade, so I began by having them build pumpkins. Take girls tights, cut the tops and bottoms off, and tie three legs together in the middle, then have them fill the legs with poly fill (bought a huge box at walmart for less than 20 dollars). After they are constructed the can paint them with regular tempra.

K Textured Pumpkin Painting

To get into the Thanksgiving spirit, I made textured pumpkin painting with my Kindergarten. First we used observational drawing to just practice drawing a pumpkin. Next class we made our textured painted paper. Our last class we cut out our pumpkins and decorated them.

Thanks to Miss Tabarcea's great inspirations, I can continue to be a more sustainable classroom teacher by recycling old crayons. At the end of the last school year I was torn, what to do with all my old crayons??? Keep them....she said....and so I did. With the help of some dessert bar baking trays ($10 at Walmart) I made old crayons new. Arrange colors as desired and back for 20-30 min on 250.
